Dutch oven breakfast

This Dutch oven breakfast has many layers and each of them has an amazing flavor. This recipe features hash browns, eggs, sausages, cheese and biscuits. It has a mix of different textures and helps you start the day with lots of energy. The recipe is very versatile and you can replace some ingredients. Don’t be afraid to innovate and combine different ingredients.

I love the versatility of this recipe because I like using different kinds of potatoes and sausage. You can use hash browns and the tasty will be delicious. My personal favorite is real potatoes, especially sweet potatoes.

  • 675 ml hash browns
  • 16 oz sausage
  • 6 bitten eggs
  • 225 ml cheddar cheese
  • 1 package biscuit dough
  • 60 ml butter

  1. Preheat the oven on a grate or campfire. Place sausages and oil in the oven and cook until golden. Stir them every minute. Remove the sausages from the oven. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

  2. Add hash browns to the mixture, wait until they get brown on the side and flip. Add cooked sausages on the hash browns.

  3. Pour eggs on the sausages, they will penetrate all layers and help the mixture stick together better. Add cheese. Spoon biscuit around the eggs until covered.

  4. Place the lid on top of the oven, it should fit tightly. Place the oven on the campfire over the coals. Add more coals on the top of the lid.

  5. Rotate the oven every 4 minutes, make sure ash spills don't get into the mixture. The biscuit should be brown and crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. Slice as desired before serving. Serve immediately.
