What do the traditional casserole recipes suggest: throw a good measure of cheese, ham, and butter into a pan and voila the perfect casserole is ready. Yummy? Yes! Healthy? No! Are there any real healthy alternatives that could provide comparable taste and flavor to the classic casserole recipe while not totally killing your diet? Well: yes and no.
Most healthy versions of classic recipes have the same drawback: making one to replace anything that is tasty and good like cheese, ham and so on, with low-fat, lo-caloric supplements ending up with a dull and boring taste that has almost nothing left from the original juicy and succulent one. But wait, even if you have sacrifice something you still can make a pretty decent job out of it. Here we tried to come up with our best to making a satisfying and delicious healthy casserole supper.
Healthy breakfast casserole recipes
- 8 slices firm white bread (cut into cubes)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 12 ounces pork sausages
- 1 chopped medium onion
- 2 eggs
- 4 egg whites
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 tsp mustard
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
Pour cooking spray over a large pan, cook sausage and onion on medium for 15 minutes on medium heat
Crack eggs to large bowl, add egg whites, milk and mustard. Add bread cubes into the mix
Pour the bowl mix into the pan, cook for 45 minutes
After it is ready let it cool down for an hour for the best taste.
