Regardless of the fact that meatballs are served with spaghetti in Italy, they can become an addition to any dish almost. It is widely used in American and European cuisine.

They are made of juicy ground beef or chicken with onions, eggs, breadcrumbs, and butter. Optionally Parmigiano can be added in the mixture. Then the balls are made of that farce with use of hands and cooked in red or white sauce. They say that it tastes so much when with spaghetti. But you should not follow only a traditional version. You can eat them with soup or without any surroundings, at a family table or as a kind of a snack without serving. You can find them in a menu of many restaurants and can compare the peculiarities.

We are going to cook them in sweet and sour sauce – one of the best family friendly dinner recipes. You can buy ready-made frozen balls but we offer you a recipe of them in order to enjoy the meal made by your hands completely.

  • 0.5 cup sugar (we recommend brown one)
  • 0.5 cup vinegar (rice or white)
  • 0.25 cup ketchup (of any kind)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2.25 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 25 piece meatballs
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 piece red bell pepper
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • 4 tbsp green onions
  • 4.25 cups rice

To cook meatballs you’ll need

  • 5 pounds beef (farce)
  • 1.5 cups breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup parsley
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream
  • 2 heaping tablespoons grainy mustard
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper (ground)
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper
  • 4 piece large eggs
  • Olive oil, to fry on it


  1. Take a frying pan (with a cover) and start heating it over the medium heat.

  2. Add sugar, ketchup, vinegar, 2 cups of the pineapple juice, and soy sauce, stir the components and leave them to boil for a couple of minutes.

  3. Take a bowl and mix cornstarch and the remaining pineapple juice in it, when the mixture gets smooth, pour it to the skillet with the above ingredients and stir thoroughly. It will help to thicken the sauce.

  4. Now it is a high time to add the frozen meatballs and bell pepper. Stir and cover the skillet with a cover and cook for about 10 minutes over the low heat. The meatballs should be heated through.

  5. Finally, add the pineapple and green onions. 

  6. Get cooked the rice and serve it with ready-made meatballs and sauce.

In order to cook the meatballs you should:

  1. Take a bowl and put the chopped beef, milk, breadcrumbs, cream, parsley, mustard, black pepper, salt, red pepper flakes and eggs in it. 

  2. Make small balls of the mixture (take a tablespoon of meat each time).

  3. Place all of them on a sheet of baking paper and they should be frozen during about 10 minutes.

  4. Then take a skillet, grease it with olive oil and place it over the medium-high heat. Add meatballs and fry them stirring from side to side for 5 minutes. 

  5. Let them to drain and cool. Then put them on a sheet of baking paper and place into the freezer for half an hour. You should not cover them. 

  6. Take them out and replace into freezer bags and freeze them again until you are going to cook some for your dinner.
