You know in everyday life it is not so easy to create something new for dinner. And that is not because of lack of ideas but because you just have no time and desire to realize the unchecked recipes. Sometimes it is very convenient to cook a simple dish which will work under any circumstances.

There are several versions of such safe choice. But the kielbasa is the win-win option at any time. You will easily adapt this recipe and your children will love it for sure. The key ingredient can be usually found in refrigerator, so you are always ready to set the table even if the sudden guest arrived.

The most difficult and lasting moment is to peel and cook the potatoes. You should boil it for 10 minutes until it becomes fork-tender. That’s it. Now we start working with kielbasa being a particular type of sausage which is popular in Poland and Ukraine. It comes in plenty variants and can be eaten boiled, baked, fried or smoked. They usually cut it in thick disks, cook them and add to the dishes. But kielbasa can be eaten in the whole with mustard for example.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound potatoes peeled and chopped into 1/-inch pieces
  • 0.5-1 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 piece small onion
  • 3 piece cloves garlic
  • 1 pound kielbasa
  • 0.5 piece head green cabbage sliced into ribbons, about 4 cups worth
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. You should cook potatoes as it is mentioned above and chop it.

  2. Now when the potatoes are cool, you put them into bowl, sprinkle with half of teaspoon of salt and a little bit of black pepper, stir thoroughly. You can toss them with your hands. 

  3. Put the dish into microwave and cook the potatoes during 4 minutes.

  4. Remove, stir and again place into microwave for 4 minutes more. The vegetables should be fork tender.

  5. Meanwhile put a large skillet over the medium-high heat. 

  6. Pour some oil into it and add the chopped onions into shimmering oil. Stew for a few minutes. The onion should become lightly browned and tender. 

  7. Add the minced garlic and the sliced kielbasa and continue cooking during about 3 minutes with frequent stirring. 

  8. The potatoes should be boiled by this time. Add them to the skillet with sausage and mix gently preventing damaging the pieces. 

  9. If you see that there is a need in oil, pour a little bit. 

  10. Spread the potatoes all over the pan evenly and put it over the heat stirring from time to time. The potatoes should become slightly browned.

  11. Now add the cabbage and sprinkle again with salt and pepper. Mix and add water to the skillet reducing the heat to medium-low. Cook covered with a lid during a couple of minutes. 

  12. When the cabbage is tender, the meal is ready. 

  13. Remove it from the heat and serve warm.

Recipe Notes

The cooking time depends on the condition of the cabbage. If you prefer it being crunch – not too stewed, you should stop cooking earlier. If the wilted and tender cabbage is wanted, keep it longer over the heat.
